What to do before displaying your home for sale

Selling your house is a large project that requires quite a lot of time and effort if you want to get your house sold for the best price possible. To get the most money possible out of your house, make sure that it looks good. Displaying your home when it looks its absolute best can make more people interested in buying the property, and it can also raise the value of it. In order to make your house look as good as possible when it's going up for display, there are a few things you should think about.

Front garden

The first thing you need to consider is what impression potential buyers get from your house as they are entering the driveway. If the front of your house looks shabby, the potential buyers might remember the entire house for being shabby, even if you've done a great job on the inside. Make sure to trim bushes in front of the house so that they look neat. Don't let any branches of the bushes reach higher than the bottom of the windows as this might give the bushes a rather rampant look. You should also remove all weeds from the flower beds and also consider cutting down the lower branches on any tree you might have to make them look neater.

Smell

Another thing that's very important for display homes is the smell in the house. You won't be able to tell if your house holds any peculiar smell, as you've gotten used to it, so it's important that you're being thorough. Air your home out for a day before you start cleaning it, and then air it out some more afterwards to make sure your house smells fresh without it smelling like detergent. You could also bake something right before potential buyers come to view the house to make your home smell inviting and sweet.

Lighting

As you're having people over to look at your home, you also need to think about the lighting. Make sure all curtains are drawn and that the windows have been polished to show off your home in a natural light. You should also keep all doors between rooms in your house open to further enhance the open look and make it easy for the visitors to inspect all rooms. If you were to be showing your house at night, you should do the same, but also make sure to turn all outdoor lights on to let them shine into your home. Also turn on as many lights as possible inside your home.
